Genesis Housing Group is set to develop over 200 homes at the site of a former Zenith camera company on Colindeep Lane in Barnet after receiving planning permission for the scheme.

The development has been planned by a partnership lead by Genesis Housing Group and including Mars Investments and the European Urban Group. It creates a curved landmark tower building rising to 14 stories. The new buildings will also provide homes, local community facilities, a restaurant, offices and parking. Half of the homes which Genesis will be building will be available to rent at affordable rates and to buy through the New Build HomeBuy scheme (part-buy part-rent). Several three bedroom homes suitable for local families will also be built at the site. The remaining homes will be for outright sale.

Steve Coleman, Genesis Group Development Director said; "We are very pleased that our plans for this site have been approved. We have worked hard to create a high quality design which compliments the local area.

With the average home nine times the average income in Barnet, these affordable homes will make a real difference, particularly those wanting to get a first step onto the property ladder."

The homes have been designed by European Urban Architecture Ltd and are highly sustainable using a combination of quiet revolution vertical axis turbines and solar heating exceeding renewable energy requirements. The development is expected to be completed by summer 2010.
