New homes set for Thomas Road

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Genesis Housing Group is set to develop over 180 homes at a site on Thomas Road, near the Limehouse Cut, after receiving planning permission for the scheme from Tower Hamlets Council last week.

The site on Thomas Road will feature three residential blocks as well as commercial units. Half of the homes which Genesis will be building at the site will be available to rent at affordable rates and to buy through the New Build Homebuy scheme (part-buy part-rent) Several four and five bedroom homes suitable for local families will also be built at the site.

The homes which have been designed by Child Graddon Lewis also feature landscaped courtyards, rooftop gardens and a canalside walkway linked directly to Bow Common Bridge.

Tower Hamlets Lead Member for Regeneration, Localisation and Community Partnership, Cllr Ohid Ahmed, said; "This was one of the best projects I have seen because it includes an allocation of 50 per cent for social housing, with significant family housing. It satisfies our desire for more affordable housing and I expect to see more of this type of proposal across Tower Hamlets, including the Isle of Dogs area."

Steve Coleman, Genesis Group Development Director said; "We are very pleased that our plans for this site have been approved and praised so highly by the council's planning committee. We have worked closely with Child Graddon Lewis and the council to create a high quality design which compliments the local area. Once complete these homes will make a real difference to many people in Tower Hamlets."

Work on the site has begun and is expected to be completed by summer 2009.
