History of the Trust
The Trust was established in 1984 in memory of Sylvia and Doreen
Knowles, who owned a successful private school in Kent. Upon their
retirement, proceeds from the sale of the school were donated to
Paddington Churches Housing Association, whose Board decided that
the best way to administer this generous gift was to set up a
separate trust.
It is only because of this selfless donation by Sylvia and Doreen
Knowles that the Knowles Trust is able to help as many people as it
does today.
What we do
The charitable objectives of the Trust are the
furtherance of any charitable purpose connected with the provision
of housing and any associated amenities for persons in necessitous
circumstances arising from their age or any physical or mental
disability upon terms appropriate for their needs.
However in view of the limited funds available, the Trustees have
decided upon certain limitations in scope and geographical area of
benefit. In particular they have decided to give preference
to the housing needs and associated amenities of the elderly
(defined as those over 55 years of age) and to restrict the area of
benefit to specific London Boroughs. (See Grant Giving
Policy for details).
